Adaptation to climate change in Senegal
Why This Project Matters
Context:
Agriculture is the main activity of the local population. The assessment of the vulnerability of the agricultural sector to climate change in the Fatick region shows a probable decrease in cumulative seasonal rainfall, a delay in the start of the rainy season and a reduction in the length of the season as well as an increase in temperatures.
Development Objective :
To improve agricultural performances in the face of climate change by promoting sustainable agro-ecological practices, supporting producer organisation and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
Expected Outcomes:
- Strengthen governance and sustainable natural resource management capacities of the local communities of Diouroup and Diarrère
- Improve agro-ecological production capacities of young producers and women’s groups
- Support the agro-ecological transition through a multi-stakeholder partnership in the Fatick department
Beneficiaries
Direct beneficiaries are 840 vulnerable producers in the ten partner villages who want to adopt practices that are resilient to climate change. The total number of their family membres is estimated at 3,000.
