Adaptation to climate change in Senegal
Projet name

Adaptation aux changements climatiques par la promotion de l’agroécologie

Ten villages in the communes of Diouroup and Diarrère, Fatick department, Fatick region.

Local Partner Organisation

Environnement Développement Action pour la Protection Naturelle des Terroirs (Enda Pronat).

Agriculture is the main activity of the local population. The assessment of the vulnerability of the agricultural sector to climate change in the Fatick region shows a probable decrease in cumulative seasonal rainfall, a delay in the start of the rainy season and a reduction in the length of the season as well as an increase in temperatures.

To improve agricultural performances in the face of climate change by promoting sustainable agro-ecological practices, supporting producer organisation and multi-stakeholder partnerships. Above all, the project aims to:

  • Strengthen governance and sustainable natural resource management capacities of the local communities of Diouroup and Diarrère
  • Improve agro-ecological production capacities of young producers and women’s groups
  • Support the agro-ecological transition through a multi-stakeholder partnership in the Fatick department

Direct beneficiaries are 840 vulnerable producers in the ten partner villages who want to adopt practices that are resilient to climate change. The total number of their family membres is estimated at 3,000.

The total budget is set at € 500 000 for the period 2023 to 2027, so € 100 000 per year.

The project is funded up to 100% by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity.
